It is the determination of the flame propagation properties of textile fabrics and upholstery fabrics in the vertical position. This test examines the behavior of textile fabrics against flame contact under control. ( TS EN ISO 6941 )
Used materials
flammability tester
Standard sample template (560mm x 170mm)
Test piece holder (Standard needle template)
Gas burner (butane gas should be used)
Mercerized white cotton yarn
Stopwatch.
Sample preparation
The number of test specimens consists of a total of six test specimens, three in the length direction and three in the width direction. The needle locations in the test specimen holder are marked on the test specimen, corresponding to the holes in the template. Test samples are cut in (560mm x 170mm) ± 2mm dimensions. The marked points on the test specimen are inserted into the pins in the test specimen holder at a distance of 20 mm at the bottom of the frame.
Experimental Procedure
Surface ignition
The burner is brought to the vertical position and lit. Preheating is done for at least 2 minutes.
The burner is brought to the horizontal standby position and the horizontal distance of the flame is set to 25 mm ± 2 mm.
The prepared test sample is placed in its position in the device.
3 marker threads are placed in their positions by applying sufficient tension relative to the sample.
The ignition time of 10 seconds to be applied to the test sample is entered into the program.
The throttle is turned on to start the test.
The end of the burner is burned.
The cabin door is closed.
Due to the closure of the cabinet, the smoothness of the flame is disturbed.
It is expected that the flame will improve.
The test is brought to the start position on the computer and the flame automatically advances towards the sample and the ignition period of 10 seconds begins.
Depending on the nature of the fabric, ignition in the sample is observed within 10 seconds.
Time from the application of the test flame to the breaking of the first signal thread, in seconds recorded in .
The time from the application of the test flame until the break of the second signal thread is recorded in seconds.
The time, in seconds, from the application of the test flame to the breaking of the third signal thread is recorded.
These processes are repeated for the remaining five samples.
