    SISAL  FIBER

Sisal plant grows in hot and humid climate. In the fiber class obtained from leaves, the most fiber is produced from Sisal. The sisal plant, which is grown in Brazil, Africa and Indonesia, can be used for fiber production when it reaches 7-8 years of age. Long, fleshy and scabbard-shaped leaves are 80-85% water. Up to 3-4% fiber can be obtained from fresh leaves by rotting method.

A product can be obtained from a plant for 15-20 years. The sisal fibers are in the form of bundles of cells that are attached to each other. The length of the fibers reaches up to 100 cm. Its color ranges from white to yellow to brown. Its structure contains 65-72% cellulose. Since the fiber has small pores, its moisture absorption feature is high. It is highly durable and resistant to salt water. At the same time, its flexibility is better than other coarse fibers. Therefore; It is also used as a fastening material in knitting, ship ropes, agriculture and maritime.
